Scholarship awards 1987-2009We have lost sponsors for Awards will be presented to participants in two different age categories: 13-15, 16-18, using age as of September 1 as the qualifier for determining the players age grouping. OVERALL POINTS SCHOLARSHIP & TROPHIESEach year the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association sponsors an Awards Banquet, at which time, the Junior Golfers who finish first and second in the overall points in the 16-18 age bracket will receive $1250.00 and $750.00 scholarship awards respectively; including 4 to 5 other $500.00 Scholarships and, 13-15 $500.00 scholarship. (Scholarships must be used for college - no exceptions - See Scholarship Awards Program). Two rotational trophies will also be presented to the overall point's winners in both the 16-18 and 13-15 age groups. These trophies will be replaced with a plaque to allow the golfers to remember their accomplishment throughout their lives. POINTS DISTRIBUTIONPoints will be awarded on the position of finish in each of the tournaments played and distributed in the following manner. 1st place 20 points 6th
place 9 points In the event of ties, points for each position will be totaled and divided evenly between all participants with fractions being rounded to the nearest tenth of a point. In the event of a separate boys and girls division at a given tournament, points will be awarded on the basis of overall combined age groupings. In the case of a tie for overall points, winners will be determined, using the following tiebreakers in order as listed: 1. Participate in every tournament STROKE AVERAGE TROPHIESTwo rotational trophies will also be awarded in age groups 13-15, 16-18 for those players with the lowest stroke average per tournament (best 5 tournament score). In order to be eligible for this trophy, a player must have participated in five (5) tournaments. Replacement plaques will be awarded in return for the rotational trophies at next season's Awards Banquet. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAMThis program approved by the U.S.G.A. on July 6, 1987, by the NCAA on June 24, 1987 and is in accordance with the OHSAA. Junior Golfers competing in the 16 -18 age division who have finished participation in 5 tournaments ,are eligible to earn scholarships by the following method. Step One: Junior Golfers earning the recognition of H.O.J.G.A. "Player of the Year", as well as the runner-up to that accomplishment will qualify for first level consideration to receive a scholarship award. Step Two: Upon graduation from high school the student shall satisfy the following criteria to be considered as the award recipient. A. The Junior Golfer shall graduate with an academic average of "C" or
better. This scholarship awards program shall be administered in accordance with the published NCAA guidelines and requirements. SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDSThere will be plaques given in all three age groups, 12 and under; 13-15; 16-18. HOJGA members will choose a junior golfer within his/her division whom they believe to have presented true sportsmanlike conduct throughout the current year and why. Forms will be presented, collected, and counted by tournament officials, who will then choose from the top five nominees. Officials' decision will be final. Forms for nomination must be received no later than appointed date. ADDITIONAL ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS BEGUN 1991JAMES SAMARDGE MEMORIAL ACADEMIC & PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP $500 The academic student who has excelled in grade point average (including ACT & SAT score consideration) WHO OBTAINED POINTS IN PRESENT YEAR OF OVER ALL TOURNAMENTS and has been selected among five top pointers, excluding any present year's winners of other H.O.J.G.A. affiliated scholarships. * * * * * * * * * Juniors who receive scholarship awards at Year-End Appreciation Banquet will receive a Certificate of Recognition, a credential form to fill out, along with a request of recommendation from high school athletic director. The credential form and letter will be forwarded to H.O.J.G.A. when college preparations are made. H.O.J.G.A. will forward check to college. (These scholarships approved by the U.S.G.A. and NCAA on May 7, 1991 and in accordance with OHSAA.)
ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPSNUCOR Most Improved Golfer of the Year Scholarship - $500.00 This scholarship is sponsored by Nucor Steel Marion challenging juniors
to strive for "Continuous Improvement". (Begun 2010) Guidelines:
* * * * * * * * * K of C Sportsmanship Scholarship $500.00 (Begun in 2000) Knights of Columbus, Marion sponsors in 2010. This scholarship recipient will be chosen by HOJGA junior members who will choose a junior golfer whom he/she believes to have presented a true sportsmanlike conduct through the current year Guidelines:
